Squarespace has a dirty secret: have you spotted it?

Are you thinking of setting up a shop on your website? 

You’re going to need shopping carts, customer profiles, payment systems, tax handling, shipping, stock/inventory tracking… There’s quite a lot happening under the bonnet.

No idea where to start?

There are a few popular solutions, and an enormous amount of long-winded reviews out there… if you’ve got the energy to trawl through them!

Rather than offer you yet another of these, we’ve decided to approach it differently. 

What’s important to you? 

In our opinion, the choices can all be boiled down to two key points:

1. Would you like your website to run on green energy?

2. Would you like help to build and look after it, or would you prefer to do it yourself?

If you’re happy to build it yourself, then you could use Shopify, Squarespace or Wix. They make it relatively easy to set up and run a good-looking online store without any technical knowledge.

However as we wrote a while back, we don’t recommend them as a sustainable strategy.

And whereas Shopify and Wix now run on Google’s 100% renewable cloud infrastructure, a key drawback of Squarespace is that they don’t power their websites with green energy. In fact as far as we can tell, they don’t have any environmental policies at all.

In our book, that’s not good enough. If it isn’t good enough for you either, then we can help.
